Vista Broadband clusters wireless service

INTERNET PROVIDER TARGETS MARKET IN APARTMENTS, BUSINESS PARKS, SHOPPING CENTERS

SANTA ROSA – Vista Broadband Networks is going after multi-tenant units with a competitive wireless broadband service, the company announced.

The Vista Broadband MTU service is a solution for business clusters, business parks, shopping centers and apartment buildings.

“Low-cost Internet has always been a problem for tenants with smaller spaces,” said Vista Broadband Chairman and CEO Scott Mindemann.

“And having multiple Internet suppliers to one building is a headache for property managers, who have to figure out who to call if there’s a problem with Internet in the building.”

Vista Broadband has built and maintains a business-quality, redundant microwave network throughout Marin, Sonoma and Napa counties, the only Internet provider to own its own infrastructure besides AT&T and Comcast. Since it owns the pipe to the building, variable speeds can be offered at independently discounted prices.

“If you purchase two Megabits per second, you get two Megabits per second,” said Frank Hall, Vista Broadband sales manager. “That’s exactly what businesses want to hear.”

At the Petaluma Marina business park, Vista Broadband installed three antennas on the three buildings at no cost. Manager Beverly Hodge said she didn’t know how many of the 67 tenants are subscribing to the service, but the business park office is.

“It’s very competitively priced. We get two megs upstream and two down, and Vista Broadband is very good with support,” she said.

With the multi-tenant service, each manager has a direct line to customer service. If needed, Vista Broadband will deploy a field technician to the site, often within 20 minutes. Quick hookup to broadband is a selling point for landlords and business park owners, said Mr. Mindemann.

For Randy Sanders, property manager at Creek Business Center in San Rafael, it was a necessity.

“We were losing prospective tenants because Internet service was spotty, and a power outage knocked everything out. A few years ago, Vista Broadband put an antenna nearby, and now at least 40 of our 52 tenants are subscribers. It’s been very good,” said Mr. Sanders.
