The San Francisco Bay Area affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure provided community grants totaling more than $1 million to support Bay Area breast health education and breast cancer-screening and treatment programs. Recipients included the Alexander Valley Regional Medical Center, Alliance Medical Center and Petaluma Health Center in Sonoma County and the Marin Center for Independent Living and Marin Community Clinics.Cattlemens Steakhouse’s locations in Santa Rosa and Petaluma donated tips received on July 22 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the 6th Annual Bob Burke Kid’s Night, which raises funds for terminally ill children.
The 8th Annual Fermenting Change Microbreweries Battling Breast Cancer event raised $40,000 for the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic. The festival was hosted by Marin Brewing Co., Moylan’s Brewing Co. and Noonan’s Bar and Grill.
The Land Trust of Napa County received a $30,000 donation from Sterling Vineyards in Napa Valley. Sterling also released a 2005 vintage of Wildlake Ranch Merlot to benefit the nonprofit.
Disaster Relief
Small non-farm businesses in 15 California counties, including Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Lake, Mendocino and Solano, can apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration to offset the economic losses caused by drought in the first half of 2008.Marketing
